RDKB Area D
Many years ago Selkirk College hosted international Students from a college in Japan. Our family invited two students into our home, Namiko and Mutsumi. Our Children were 9, 7 and 5 at the time, and the Students were in training to be teachers, and they were delighted to be in a family with children. They were city people and life on a farm, out in the countryside was fascinating, and probably a huge culture shock. They embraced the experience like true adventurers and helped harvest the garden, tended to chickens, and watched us milk the Jersey cows. I also have great photos of them helping to bring in the hay.
Our daughter Saskia was seven at the time, and being the Artistic craft person in the family the students taught her to fold Origami. They left her special Origami paper and an instruction book, so she could further her skills in the Art of paper folding.
She used her experience and knowledge to entertain and delight others to this day. She has since become a world traveller and made many international friends, including some in Japan.
She designed an Origami tree for herself a few years ago, and I asked her to do it again for this special Tree Event.
I hope someone who appreciates International Art and Culture will find joy in owning the Origami Tree.
Happy Christmas
from Saskia Evers, and Margo Evers.
